Frederick C. Lincoln papers 1912-1920.

This collection of documents is contained in nine boxes and one series of bound volumes and binders. One part dates from between 1850 and 1920 and includes "Colorado Notes from an Ornithologist" by Frederick C. Lincoln. It also includes personal communication from 1921 to 1922 between Frank M. Taylor, then President of the Board of Trustees of the Colorado Museum of Natural History (now the Denver Museum of Nature & Science), and Lincoln, when Lincoln was treasurer of the Biological Society of Washington, D.C. The collection also includes personal correspondence between Lincoln and well-known ornithologists, naturalists and private individuals regarding requests for specimens for the museum. In addition, there is a series of Lincoln's field notes relating to ornithology, taxidermy, extinction, and general specimen data. There is also a collection of photos by Lincoln. Lincoln's communications reflect his efforts to build an avian collection for the museum.

Ornithologist Frederick C. Lincoln was born in 1892 in Denver. He played a critical role in the study of the decline of the waterfowl population in the 1930s due to the extended drought. A formula, now referred to as the Lincoln Index and used by ornithologists to forecast waterfowl populations, gives credit to his name.
